Made in 1940, this stirringly patriotic film cleverly combines scripted scenes with genuine newsreel footage of the time. A newsreel journalist (Will Fyffe) produces a film telling the story of the Nazis rise to power only to find that his worst fears of War in Europe come to fruition. October 1938 and 'Chief' Film production Manager (Will Fyffe) has produced a film titled 'Shadow Over Europe'. His film tells the story of the rise of the Nazis in Europe despite the peace efforts of British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain. Fearing conflict he brings together the views of foreign journalists and as time goes by he is forced to conclude that there will be War. By 1939 his son meanwhile is working in South America and is on hand to film the Battle of the River Plate. The film concludes with actual footage of the speech made by Winston Churchill at the celebration of the sinking of the German pocket Battleship the 'Graf Spee'.
