Whilst at their lakeside holiday home, a middle class couple (Naomi Watts and Tim Roth) and their young son are surprised by the unexpected arrival of two handsome men dressed in gleaming tennis whites (Michael Pitt and Brady Corbet). These men go on to subject them to the most cruel, twisted and horrifying ordeal of terror and torture. However, this is not a simple slasher movie. With his renowned creative flair for originality, Haneke delivers a masterpiece that turns the conventions of genre on their head and the expectations of his audience inside out, forcing viewers to question the complacency with which we all absorb on-screen violence on a regular basis.
