A Slightly Pregnant Man DVD

A Slightly Pregnant Man DVD
Released originally in France as L'Evenement le plus Important depuis que l'Homme a Marche sur la Lune (The Most Important Event Since Man Walked On The Moon), this robust farce demonstrates director Demy's (The Umbrellas of Cherbourg) ability to make a workable comedy out of the least likely of source. Marcello Mastroinni (La Dolce Vita) plays Marco, a male Parisian driving school owner who goes to see his doctor and complains of feeling run down, and much to his consternation and surprise is pronounced four months pregnant... The role-reversal comedy has become a staple of mainstream comedy (think Junior) but unsurprisingly Demy's tilt at the genre is a notch above. Mastroianni excels in the central role, blending comedy and pathos whilst Catherine Deneuve (Belle du Jour, The Umbrellas of Cherbourg) lends characteristically sterling support. Michel Legrand - Demy's regular collaborator - supplies the effervescent songs.
