Hadewijch DVD
Bruno Dumont directs this French drama starring Julie Sokolowski as a young Christian fanatic who falls in with a group of Muslim fundamentalists.
The daughter of a wealthy politician, Celine (Sokolowski) identifies with the 13th-century mystic Hadewijch so strongly that she even takes on her name, and is eventually sent away from her Paris convent for being too extreme in her devotion.
Outside the convent, she begins naively to explore the real world, and struggles to find a way to reconcile her longing for Christ with her need for physical love.
