The Day The Earth Caught Fire Blu-Ray
Newly remastered by the BFI National Archive and available on Blu-ray for the first time, this is the definitive version of the Val Guest's (The Quatermass Xperiment) classic British science fiction thriller. When the USA and Russia simultaneously test atomic bombs, the earth is knocked off its axis and set on a collision course with the sun. As the city burns, washed-up reporter Peter Stenning (Edward Judd) breaks the story and investigates the government cover-up. This scorching vision of end-of-days London won the BAFTA for Best Screenplay and also stars Leo McKern (Rumpole of the Bailey), Janet Munro, real-life reporter Bernard Braden and one-time Daily Express editor Arthur Christianson.
