In 1927, 12-year-old deaf girl Rose (Millicent Simmonds) dreams of leaving her sheltered life in New Jersey and heads to New York to try and find her estranged mother.
Meanwhile, in 1977, ten-year-old Ben (Oakes Fegley) sets off from rural Minnesota following the death of his mother as he attempts to track down his absent father in New York.
The cast also includes Julianne Moore and Michelle Williams.
